There are four registries for the Gypsy Horse in the USA.
My preferences and affiliations at this time are for two of the well established original registries for the breed:
Gypsy Horse Registry of America. Office is located in Texas.
Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Assoc. Office located in Indiana.
They are valued for what they provide the breed. They have been consistent in maintaining registry of horses; documenting horses; and provide the best quality Gypsy Horse Shows; and support of open shows.
There is confusion about what this horse is to be called.
Is it a Gypsy; a Gypsy Cob; a Gypsy Horse; a Gypsy Vanner?
Is there a difference?
NO, there is not!
The Breed Name used, is simply different registries useage term for "the same horse". All registries have a breed standard which identify "the same horse".
The GCDHA refer to their registered horses as "Cobs".
The GHRA refer to their registered horses as "Gypsy Horses" or "Cobs".
The GVHS refer to their registered horses as "Vanners".
The GHA is a split off registry from the Gypsy Vanner society. They refer to the horse as "Gypsy Horse".
